Puglsley’s Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza Traunsteinerioides) is also known as the Narrow Leaved Marsh Orchid. It is a delicate marsh orchid, and easily confused with the Northern Marsh Orchid, which often grows near by. It is widespread, but far from common. This specimen was found in Yorkshire near Malham Tarn.
It is identified through a combination of factors. It has few (5 – 15) flowers, they tend to be a bit one sided. Leaves are narrow and generally unspotted, although the Yorkshire specimens, as is the case here, can have spotted leaves. It grows to about 30cm tall and flowers in mid May to end of June, depending on the season and how far north they are situated.
