Northern Marsh Orchid Dactylorhiza Purpurella. late June Southern Uplands. Found in sedge beds around lower lying lakes.
WIdely occuring and fairly common the Northern Marsh Orchid might be called the North West Marsh Orchid as it can be found north of a line from Swansea to Hull! Although both Northern and Southern Marsh Orchids can be found in South Wales there is very little crossover and so the slightly complex process of differentiation can often be dispensed with. Height generally up to 35cm and flowering period late May to early July.
