Irish Marsh Orchid

Irish Marsh Orchid Lough Graney May 19th 2019

The Irish Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza Occidentalis / Kerryensis) is confined to island of Ireland. Although similar to the Northern Marsh Orchid which also occurs on the island its distinctive half spotted leaves and flowering times – mid May, allow the orchid to be differentiated from its close cousins.

It is the only marsh orchid that I have discovered in white form, although this form is apparently rare.
